Senior pacer Ishant Sharma of the Indian team has been ruled out of the Test series against New Zealand due to an ankle injury. He was hurt during a Ranji Trophy match on Monday. A Delhi State and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official gave this information on Tuesday.

Ishant's ankle was twisted during the follow-up while playing for Delhi, due to which he was taken out with the help of the support staff. He was bowling against the Vidarbha team.

Earlier, Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan was also injured due to which he will not be able to take part in T20 series in New Zealand. He suffered a shoulder injury in the last ODI against Australia on Sunday in Bengaluru. As of now, no player's name has been announced by the BCCI as their substitute. Cricinfo has informed about Dhawan's exit in his report. According to the news, Dhawan did not leave with the players who went to New Zealand on Monday.

Ishant's last match of the season

Delhi's pacer Ishant took three wickets for 45 runs in Vidarbha's first innings. Ishant's last match in this Ranji season since his selection in the Test team on the tour of New Zealand is being considered. Their next match was a practice match in Hamilton, but because the injury was serious, they would have to go to NCA for rehabilitation. India has to play two Test matches from New Zealand from 21 to 25 February and from 29 February to 4 March in New Zealand. 31-year-old Pacer Ishant has played 96 Test matches so far, taking a total of 292 wickets in 173 innings. He has taken 115 wickets in 80 ODIs.

Another DDCA official said, 'Fortunately there is no fracture in his ankle. There is an ankle injury. He will go to NCA when he is in a walking position. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to release an official statement regarding Ishant's injury.

Navdeep may get a chance

A BCCI source said, "This is a standard (SOP) as they will have their MRI scan done again." Delhi fast bowler Navdeep Saini can be included in the Test team.
