With this clean sweep, New Zealand retaliated to the 0-5 clean sweep that India got in the T20 series and also for the first time in an ODI series of three or more matches against India.
India had won the ODI series 4–1 in the last New Zealand tour but this time they had to lose in all three matches.

While batting first, India scored a strong score of 296 for seven in 50 overs but the score proved to be small in front of the in-form Kiwi batsmen. The hosts managed a one-sided victory by scoring 300 runs for five wickets in 47.1 overs. In this match Henry Martin, who gave the team a strong opening with Martin Guptill, was named the Player of the Match, while Ross Taylor was named Man of the Series.

However Ross Taylor could not do anything special in this series and became a victim of Ravindra Jadeja by scoring 12 runs. He scored 194 runs in the entire series thanks to a century and a half-century. His average was excellent in this. He scored an average of 109 throughout the series.
